Trick Or Treat 50's Style

David has long wanted to dress in a theme for Halloween.  I guess we did the first Halloween after we got married, when I was pregnant with Olivia.  He wore scrubs and I went as a very unsexy nurse.  I hated it.  Not the dressing as a couple part, but the being surrounded by college girls in revealing outfits while I sported a larger than usual pudge in the belly area.  Those days I couldn't wait for a little one of my own to dress up and parade around, and hey lookie, now I have two of them!  And, you know how much I like to dress my girls alike.  This Halloween was a WIN-WIN.

We threw around a lot of ideas as what to dress as this year, but none of them really stuck.  Olivia really wanted to dress as a princess, but since she dresses as a princess daily, I really worked on convincing her to dress as something different for Halloween.  I searched Amazon for costumes and found a couple cute ones for Sydney.  I was particularly fond of this little strawberry.

That little strawberry got me thinking that Olivia could go as Strawberry Shortcake {where I found an adorably expensive outfit on Etsy} and David could go as the Purple Pie Man and I could go as Sour Grapes, but man, those outfits would be hard to pull off.

So, then I stumbled on a similar costume, but instead of a strawberry, it was a pink poodle.  And, my mind went directly to a 50's family.  The poodle skirts for Olivia and me were found from the Etsy shop, Hip Hop 50's Shop.  I can't say enough good stuff about them.  They were much higher quality than any of the ones found in the costume shops, and much less expensive.

After I figured out our theme, it was time to move on to our accessories.  I ordered Olivia's glasses from that same Etsy shop and mine from Amazon.  And, I knew exactly what we were going to do for our mode of transportation.

Dad and I spent over a week working on getting their wagon converted to a 1957 Chevy Bel-Air and I love the way it turned out.  Thanks, Poppy, for all of your help!

And, without further ado, here are the pictures of our 50's family from Halloween night!

We had so much fun and were the hit of the neighborhood.
We're already thinking about what we can be next year!!

I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT.... Everything about the whole night was so much fun. Your little family was indeed the hit of the neighborhood. Poppy and I enjoyed giving out the candy at your house while you all were out getting your own candy.

All of your hard work and dedication to the car project paid off because it too was a smashing hit.

Loved it all and love you all. You are a BOO-TI-FUL family.
